Why did a skinny kid from Wisconsin get into Body building, Health, Fitness, Exercise
and decide to help others achieve the same success?
When I was just 18 years old I won a wager playing a friendly game of pool at a
local pub. My opponent refused to pay me after I beat him. He insisted we arm wrestle
for the money I already won and he knew I didn't have a chance.

Here's a photo that my dad took of me when I was 21 years old, before I started
learning everything I could about work out routines for muscle building.
At the time I was barely 155 lbs with clothes-soaking wet.
I also didn't have nearly enough confidence to win an arm wrestling match with that
guy since he was much older, and I figured he wouldn't pay me anyway.

Something clicked in my head that day. That situation sent me over the edge and
I came to realize I never wanted to feel weak again.
The light went on and from that day forward I was determined to learn all I could
about work out routines for muscle & body building. When I started weight lifting
it was a journey and a turn of events I would have never expected.
Learning all I could about muscle building was exciting. I began watching all the
fitness shows I could including every episode with Cory Everson from Body Shaping
on ESPN. I also absorbed every article I could get my hands on from just about every
Muscle and Fitness magazine you could imagine.

During the first three years of weight training I only gained a total of 12 lbs
and quickly realized that gaining muscle and bulk was not that easy. It wasn't until
college that I really started to change and understand what to do.

Since growing up as a very skinny kid I always had trouble gaining weight and building
muscle. My new found addiction was to learn work out routines for muscle building
while also learning the best supplements for muscle building.
I had to learn how to eat the right kinds of foods as well as what healthy,
nutritious foods should be included in my diet plan for building muscle mass.
I also learned that muscle building without weights is actually possible and can
be done at home.
Further course work and professional experience helped me gain tremendous knowledge
about building muscle mass. The benefits of eating properly, not just counting calories
and watching sugars, but giving your body the proper amounts of protein and other
essential nutrients have a profound impact on your work out routines for muscle
building.
When I originally entered college I was studying to become a Psychologist since
I really enjoyed helping people and was very interested in understanding the human
mind. It was interesting to me that I also discovered I really loved to be involved
with any activity or course work that dealt with sports and exercise.
While doing course work in psychology I realized my true dream of helping others
would be better realized in the fitness industry. I decided to change my entire
life path from Psychology to Exercise Science and soon realized I had made one of
the best decisions of my life.

With all the new knowledge and experience gained during college I was able to add
12 pounds of muscle within a year.
I also learned more and more about muscle building and then gained an additional
13 pounds of muscle the following year.
I came a long way from that 150 lb senior in high school to a 215 lb certified personal
trainer with solid muscle.

I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with an
emphasis in Exercise and Fitness graduating on the Dean's list with top honors and
published a paper entitled, The Effects of Time Incremented Running on Mood State of College Athletes”.
Shortly after graduation, I decided to become a personal trainer and life coach
in one of the healthiest cities in the USA and relocated to San Diego after Christmas
in 1998. Upon relocating to San Diego, I underwent the course work and testing to
become Nationally Certified with the National Strength and Conditioning Association
and received my CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist).

|
NSCA Certification Commission.
|
|
The Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) is for professionals
who design and implement strength training and conditioning programs for athletes
in a team setting.
|
|
The CSCS and NSCA-CPT credentials are the only fitness-related certifications that
have been nationally accredited for more than 10 years through the esteemed National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), based
in Washington, D.C. |
